Ludhiana Academy Men and Amritsar Women emerge Champions in 72nd S. Pb State Basketball Championship
Ludhiana, November 22, 2021: 72nd Senior Punjab State Basketball Championship dedicated to the memory of Late Gurdial Singh Malhi, an Arjuna Awardi in basketball (1968) at village Gureh which was played from 18th Nov to 21st Nov concluded at the stadium in his name. In the finals Ludhiana Academy Men remained Punjab champions by beating Jalandhar Men (90-72) in a very interesting and lively match. While Amritsar women beat Ludhiana Academy women by 83-65.
Yurinder Singh Hayer (IPS) a former IG and a Sr. Vice president of PBA and Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu,SSP Jagraon jointly distributed prizes to the winners and other players in presence of Teja Singh Dhaliwal, Hon.Gen Sec.PBA. Hayer praised the village’s local organizers Avtar Singh Malhi, Birpal Singh, Balwinder Kaur(Sarpanch), Jathedar Jarnail Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Sohan Singh (former Sarpanch) and other youths who are popularizing the sports in the area. In an earlier match, M S Bhullar SSP Batala (VP-PBA) who also remained present gave a call to youth to adopt the game.
Teja Singh Dhaliwal also disclosed that Basketball Federation of India has now launched its Indian National Basketball League(INBL) league on the pattern of USA’s NBA leagues which will attract more youth to the game as they will be financially helped through the league system . He also said that PBA plans to train new coaches throughout the state.
Brij Goyal and Richu Sharma from District Basketball association Ludhiana said that they have plans to distribute 2000 basketballs and poles in village schools.
