Ludhiana continue to witness dip in snatching cases
City reports 30 cases in last 20-days, 51 snatchings registered in first three weeks of September

Ludhiana, October 13, 2021: Sound planning, strategic patrolling and enhanced presence of cops at vulnerable points or hot spots, the Ludhiana Commissionerate police have effectively managed to bring down the snatching cases considerably as it has reported only 30 cases in last 20-days which are much less than corresponding period of last month.
Disclosing further details, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar who assumed the charge on September 22, said that 30 incidents of chain snatching have been registered in various police stations out of which 28 have been traced successfully with the arrest of 64 accused and 100 percent recovery of stolen property.
As per the details, 51 incidents of chain snatching took place in Ludhiana from September 1 to September 21 which reduced to 30 cases from September 22 to October 12. Besides, the tracing percentage was only 33.33 percent in the first 21 days of September which increased to 93.33 percent in the next 20 days. The Cops have also recovered property worth Rs 50.42 lakh.
Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that special emphasis is being laid to eliminate this street crime from Ludhiana and said police have worked out a detailed strategy to catch snatchers. He said that every snatching case is now being dealt seriously and teams led by senior officers work overnight to crack promptly.
He said that now more PCR teams have been stationed in the hot spots including Ghumar Mandi Road, DMC Road, Kipps Market Sarabha Nagar, Urban Estate Dugri, Jalandhar Bypass, Gill road, Sherpur and Giaspura Chowk besides surveillance through CCTVs are being kept .
Bhullar said that the cops especially PCR teams have a lot of responsibility in dealing with any crime as they have been mandated with the job of reaching on the spot of crime as soon as they get the information.
He added that Ludhiana police have also requested Municipal Corporation Ludhiana to install street lights at several places as criminals take benefit of darkness while committing the crime.
