Ludhiana DC inaugurates district level training on road safety measures to strengthen coordinated approach towards road safety
To further strengthen coordinated approach towards road safety, a day-long district level training on road safety measures was held here at Bachat Bhawan wherein experts from different fields provided an insight into the various aspects of road safety measures. The program was organized on the directions of Director General Lead Agency Road Safety Punjab R. Venkatratnam.
Ludhiana, November 7, 2023: To further strengthen coordinated approach towards road safety, a day-long district level training on road safety measures was held here at Bachat Bhawan wherein experts from different fields provided an insight into the various aspects of road safety measures. The program was organized on the directions of Director General Lead Agency Road Safety Punjab R. Venkatratnam.
Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Surabhi Malik while inaugurating the training session urged all stakeholder departments to actively participate in this program so that better understanding towards road safety can further be evolved at department level. She stated that district administration was duty bound to ensure road safety in the district as slew of measures were already taken up by the authorities including routine checking, implementation of safe school vahan scheme, dealing with black spots, etc. She said that in winters during fog/mist, most of the road accidents happen in the country; hence this training session holds great significance at this time.
Pointing out further, Joint Director Traffic Lead Agency Punjab Des Raj Kamboj and Joint Director Medical Dr. Kanwarpreet Singh stated that during the training session over 65 officers/officials from the seven stakeholder departments participated. These departments comprised NHAI, Police, Punjab Mandi Board, Education Department, Health Department, Local Bodies Department, and Public Works Departments. They further mentioned that the training aimed at promoting coordinated approach among these departments to achieve the goal of reducing fatalities by 50 percent. They said that the entire training session was divided into four sessions wherein the first session aims at engineering methods of road safety. Dr. Rahul from Ropar IIT provided an insight into the engineering aspects of road safety while Dr. Anubhav Sharma, Assistant Professor DMC&H Ludhiana explained role of emergency care, Naval Kishore Kaura from Safe Drive Stay Alive NGO gave key information about traffic management, and Dr. Prashant Garg from GNDE College Ludhiana gave information about road safety and traffic management measures to reduce fatalities by 50 percent. In the end, participation certificates were handed over to all the participating stakeholders.
