Ludhiana, November 7, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik today said that Ludhiana District has seen a significant drop around 40 percent in stubble burning cases this year as a result of collective efforts by all the stakeholders.
Interacting with the media, the DC said that a significant dip has been observed in farm fire cases this year in comparison to that of last year's figure. She stated that the District Administration was making concerted efforts to curb farm fire incidents in the district and a multi-pronged strategy has been adopted to achieve this mission. She said that progressive farmers were being honored by the administration for adopting stubble management while action was being taken against those violating government orders.
She also said that the administration has arranged over eight thousand machines to deal with crop residue through in-situ and ex-situ management systems. This machinery was being provided to the farmers through cooperative societies so that they can utilize it for managing their paddy straw without burning it, she added.
The deputy commissioner further mentioned that an extensive awareness drive has also been launched by the administration to sensitize farmers against the dangerous health and environmental effects of stubble burning. She urged the farmers to join hands with the government to tackle this problem permanently by shunning such practices.
