Ludhiana gets Punjab's first skill development center for divyangs
Specially-abled persons are integral part of our society- Deepti Uppal
Ludhiana, July 6, 2022: In a first of its kind initiative, Ludhiana has become the first district in the state to have a dedicated skill development centre for Divyangs with Director Punjab Skill Development Mission Deepti Uppal inaugurating this centre here at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Vocational Studies.
Chairing the inaugural ceremony held at the institute, Mission Director Deepti Uppal said that this unique initiative would be extended pan Punjab wherein as many as 180 specially-abled students to get free-of-cost skill development training for three different trades. Notably, a total of 60 selected students would undergo a 380-hour training of data entry operators.
Describing this initiative a real service to humanity, the mission director lauded the efforts of the NGO Deaf Cricket Federation (DCF) for collaborating with PSDM for launching this project aimed at changing the lives of physically disabled persons. She also said that the PSDM would leave no stone unturned to assist maximum specially-abled persons so as to make them able to earn their livelihood.
She asserted that specially abled persons are the integral part of our society and the state government was committed to serving them in the best possible manner so that they also feel as an inseparable part of our society. Meanwhile, she took a round at the newly inaugurated centre and reviewed the arrangements made here for this course.
She further stated that this course not only aimed at providing skill training to specially-abled persons but also arranging job opportunities for them. She stated that after the completion of this course, the passed out candidates would further be assisted with job placement opportunities through several camps as elaborate arrangements have already been made in this regard.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, Mission Director Rajesh Tripathi, President Gujranwala Guru Nanak College Ludhiana SP Singh, and Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra.
