Ludhiana News/ Budhewal Sugar Mills to crush about 18 quintal sugarcane during this season

Ludhiana, November 27, 2013: The Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal today said that the Punjab Government was contemplating to set aside special budget for disbursement of payments to sugarcane peasantry for their crops and payments from this budget would be made from next year.

Inaugurating 28th crushing season at Budhewal Sugar Mill, Lakhowal informed that this mill would crush more than 18 lakh quintal sugarcane this season.

He said that from the next season the sugarcane peasantry would not have to wait for their payments as the under consideration policy of Punjab Government, all payments to sugarcane farmers would be made at the time of crop arrival at respective sugar mills.

Lakhowal also said that Punjab was emphasising on agriculture diversification in state and special steps have been taken in this regard to educate farmers towards other beneficial crops instead of wheat and paddy including sugarcane, maize & other crops. 

Lakhowal praised the farmers for increasing interests towards sowing sugarcane. He further said all dues and payments to sugarcane peasantry would be delivered soon. He said that the Centre has fixed Rs. 210 for sugarcane as MSP while Punjab has also decided to give Rs. 80 per quintal to the farmers. He added that Budhewal Sugar Mills would crush about 18 quintal sugarcane during this season.
