Ludhiana, September 22, 2014: Prof. A.K. Maleri, Co-convener, Democratic Front Against Operation Green Hunt (Punjab) has strongly condemned the mass detention and arrest of the leaders, students and cultural activists of various organisations in Hyderabad by the A.P.and Telengana governments on Sunday.

In a statement here today, he added the police claim that these arrests have been made as preventive measure to not allow Forum for Alternative Politics to hold a convention and public meeting on 10 years of revolutionary movement. Even women and children were not spared. This is most condemnable, undemocratic and unconstitutional act of the 2 states, he added.

He added the Forum for Alternative Politics was formed a few days back by several intellectuals with Varvararao as its convener. Whatever be the politics of the Forum, it has the constitutional guarantee to pursue it in constitutional manner.  The Police have no authority whatsoever to curb these fundamental rights. It is their democratic right to engage in practice their politics within the bounds of the constitution of India. He added the governments and the Police are subverting the constitution by preventing the Forum from holding the convention.

The Front demand that all those arrested be released immediately and unconditionally. The organisers be allowed to hold their convention and public meeting. “We call upon all democratic minded people and organisations to protest against this undemocratic and unconstitutional action of the two states”, he said.
