Ludhiana, September 19, 2013: The sleuths of excise and taxation department led by the Ludhiana Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner (AETC) Tejbir Singh Sidhu have confiscated jewellery worth Rs. 60 crore from airport at Sahnewal, near here, this afternoon. The confiscated jewellery, both gold and diamonds, belong to a jewellery showrooms group of chain across the country which is to open its showroom here on Sunday.
Addressing the media persons here this evening, the Ludhiana deputy excise and taxation commissioner (DETC) Rishi Pal Singh confirmed that the jewellery had been confiscated as the persons concerned failed to show proper documents related to taxation required at the time of transfer of stock from one state to another. The party concerned had been given time to show the documents tomorrow after which the matter would be pursued further accordingly.
The jewellery was being transferred from another state to Ludhiana (Punjab) in a chartered plane, which landed at Sahnewal Airport, near here, this evening. On receiving information, police and excise and taxation officials reached there and asked to show the related documents. On failing to show the proper documents, the excise officials confiscated the jewellery worth Rs. 60 crore.
