Ludhiana, September 18, 2013: The newly elected team of the office bearers of United Cycle & Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), Ludhiana held a seminar with National Small Industries Corporation Ltd regarding `Impact of Chinese import on Indian bicycle industry’.

Rajesh Jain, Deputy General Manager, NSIC appraised the willingness of the MSME ministry to study the impact of injury to MSME industry from the Chinese bicycle parts. The government of India has appointed NSIC to conduct survey/study through “Centre for Market research and Social development” which was represented by S.P Gera Chief Consultant and Dr. Arpita Verma, Research Coordinator; it was informed to the members that proper evaluation study / survey will be accessed on the impact of Chinese imports and remedial measure for corrective action will taken at the earliest they handed over the proforma  to the industry so that proper data can be compiled and presented to the ministry of MSME.

Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma, President suggested that export of raw material should be banned, first home industry should be fed then we should think of export of raw material.

Manjit Singh Khalsa strongly resented on import of bicycle and bicycle parts from China via Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, he suggested that this import should banned as the origin of goods is from China and not from these countries.

Rajeev Jain, General Secretary of UCPMA suggested that floor price should be fixed on the import of the Chinese bicycle and bicycle parts. He also suggested that the government should form steel price regulatory committee in order to stabilise the steel prices.

Avtar Singh Bhogal suggested increasing the custom duty on bicycle and bicycle parts.
