Ludhiana, December 14, 2013: Reacting to Progressive Punjab Investment Summit, Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal state president Amrit Lal Jain, general secretary Sunil Mehra and secretary Mohinder Aggarwal have welcomed MoUs worth Rs.65,000 signed in that summit.
In a statement here today, they said it was good to note that the industries from outside the state were investing in Punjab. But, there was also a need that decisions should also be taken to remove problems and difficulties being faced by the industries in Punjab due to the faulty policies of the ruling alliance government in the state. They opined that Punjab could not progress until its own industries flourish.
They reinstated that many industrial units had already closed. Several others were on verge of closure. They said 34,922 small-scale units had been shut down in the state from the period between the year 2006 and 2012. 70 large and medium units had also been closed down. About 100 steel units had also been closed in Mandi Gobindgarh, Ludhiana and Khanna in the last one and a half years. Besides, 80 per cent units of manufacturers of body and chessis of trucks and buses had been closed in Sirhind. Almost similar was the situation with other industries, they said.
They said the state government must protect its own industries. It would take several years to arrive investments in the state, they said. Moreover, who knew that how many MoUs would be successful, they asked.
