LUDHIANA, MAY 23, 2018: Member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu on Wednesday handed over cheques of Rs 62.20 lakh to the families of nine victims who were died in plastic factory fire mishap in November 2017.
The amount includes one-day's salary contribution of more than 7500 employees of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation and Rs 10 lakh to three of the victims jointly given by Punjab Government and Municipal Corporation.
The cheques were given in Zone-D office of Municipal Corporation.
The families of the six victims were already given the cheques of Rs 10 lakh on January 20 this year. The employees of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation had also pledged to donate one-day salary for the families of the victims after the mishap.
On this occasion, MP said that the sacrifice of the firefighters who lost their lives in the mishap cannot be forgotten by Punjab. He said that they had saved several lives by laying down their own lives and added that the Punjab Government and Congress party will always be present for the families.
He said that nine employees of Fire Brigade had lost their lives in the mishap out of which bodies of three were not found.
He said due to delay in the issuance of death certificates to the families of those three employees, the compensation cheque to their families got delayed.
On the occasion, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, MC commissioner Jaskiran Singh and other were also present.
