Ludhiana Psychiatry Welfare Association(LPWA) conducts CME on ‘Cardiopsychiatry Meet’
Ludhiana, December 16, 2018: Ludhiana Psychiatry Welfare Association(LPWA) on Saturday conducted a CME on ‘Cardiopsychiatry Meet’ which was well attended by psychiatrists from all over the region. Dr Rupesh Chaudhary, President of Ludhiana Psychiatry Welfare Association said that LPWA has been regularly conducting CMEs on various aspects of psychiatric problems to enhance the knowledge of participating delegates. In his address, Dr Chaudhary said that cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and depression are common. Patients with CVD have more depression that the general population. The key speakers during the CME were Chief Cardiologist of Hero DMC Heart Institute Dr GS Wander and Dr Navkiran Mahajan (Professor of Psychiatry) at DMCH. Both the speakers mentioned that if a person is recovering from heart surgery or any other heart ailment, temporary feelings of sadness and a depressed mood are common for the first few weeks. But sometimes problem of ‘depression’ gets much worse and in that case, it is advisable for patients to get psychiatric treatment from a qualified psychiatrist, because if such mental issues are left unattended then, they can adversely affect patient’s overall welfare. Dr Navkiran Mahajan said that with the passage of time, awareness about psychiatric diseases has increased and people prefer to go for proper psychiatric treatment rather than falling into the trap of ‘quack’ or leaving such problems unattended.
