Ludhiana, April 4, 2016: People of this industrial city that is also known as Manchester of India, are almost ready to witness a major change in the city’s railway station in the next three to four years.
Yes. In the next three-four years, people visiting the Ludhiana railway station will find tremendous changes. People will find there hi-tech services such as wi-fi facility, good looking and better building infrastructure, shopping complex, eating joints, resting area and even fun places.
Besides, it is also under consideration to make entry and exit faster and easier at the railway station. Most probably there will be separate entry and exit points in the future. Besides, efforts will be made to ensure optimal use of railways land, constructing new toilets, separate arrangements for goods trains.
Credit for this overhauling will go to the Modi-led government at the Centre. An agreement was signed between India and France to develop Ludhiana railway station when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited France in the year 2015.
The agreement between India and France was to establish cooperation between Indian and French Railways for semi-high speed rail and station renovation.
The Ludhiana’s railway station is around 110 years.
Under the agreement, a 3-member French team visited the Ludhiana railway station on April 2, 2016. The team of AREP, the consultancy wing of SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français; “National society of French railways”) was led by its director (international) Eric Dussiot.
Interestingly, the railway station at Ambala in Haryana is also to be developed and in the initial phase of the project, costing over Rs 3 crore, the French consultants are supposed to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of both the railway stations one each at Ambala and Ludhiana. Once the DPR is prepared it will be submitted it to the Indian Railways.
Presently, Ludhiana’s railway station is one of the busiest stations with an average footfall of 70,000 people daily.
