Ludhiana, June 25, 2018: Ludhiana Smart City Limited celebrated 3rd anniversary of Smart City Mission in association with Indian institute of Architects (Punjab Chapter and Ludhiana Chapter) in a hotel at Ludhiana on Monday. The event among others was attended by Municipal Commissioner Ludhiana –cum-CEO of Ludhiana Smart City Limited, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Congress MLA Surinder Dawar, Municipal Councillor Mamta Ashu, builders, engineers, town planners, architects and government officials from various government departments.
Addressing the gathering Sanjay Goel, Chairman, the IIA Punjab Chapter and Director, Ludhiana Smart City Limited gave a presentation on the work done in the last three years for transforming this city to smart city. He said it seemed as if Ludhianvis were feeling uneasy over the pace of development during the last three years. He told that the actual work got started two years ago following which a lot of work had been done so far.
Goel said, “Ludhiana Smart City works has started approximately two years back after formation of SPV.
Three projects have started and tenders for three more works have been called and DPRs of more than ten projects are getting ready.”
Goel told that Ludhiana was amongst the first 20 cities selected under the Smart City Mission in 2016. He said various projects are being developed under the aegis of Ludhiana Smart City Limited. As of now, Rs.194 cores have been sanctioned for various projects in Ludhiana.
He said three projects namely Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation and Commissioning of different capacity rooftop solar PV power projects under Net Metering Policy in Ludhiana Smart City (20 locations), implementation of smart LED street lights for Ludhiana city on ESCO Model (1,05,236 luminaries) and installation of way-finding signages at various locations in the city of Ludhiana (756 locations) are under implementation. The total cost of these projects is about Rs.57 crores.
In addition to this, projects like retrofitting of Sarabha Nagar Market and development of Malhar Road as smart street, implementation of 24x7 surface drinking water, rehabilitation of sewerage system and storm water system for ABD area of Ludhiana, installation of toilets at various locations under the smart city mission worth Rs.156 crores are put on bidding and the bids would be awarded soon to the selected contractors.
Further, he told that projects like development of RoB and RuB at Pakhowal Road, implementation of integrated command and control centre have been approved by Executive Committee and BoDs of Ludhiana Smart City Limited.
In addition to this, added Goel, projects like development of Ghumar Mandi and National Road as smart streets, development of underground parking at Ferozepur Road, development of Carcass Utilisation Plant, worth Rs.170 crores have been approved by City Level technical Committee and State Level technical Committee and tenders would be invited shortly.
He said in addition to this, projects like development of cycle tracks in the industrial area of the city, setting up of smart bins at various locations in the city for garbage collection, setting up of construction and demolition waste plant, development of foot over bridges and junction improvements of various junctions in the city of Ludhiana, development of parking lots at Feroze Gandhi Market are under finalisation and would be sent to the Advisor (Tech) to Chief Minister, State level Technical Committee and Executive Committee of Ludhiana Smart City Limited for further approval.
Goel said, "The pace of work has picked up considerably in the past one year for the smart city projects and projects worth Rs.326 crores would be awarded in the near future to the contractors."
