Ludhiana, December 8, 2019: Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu today said that in coming few months, Ludhiana will become completely free from stray dog menace.
He said that under the Ludhiana Smart City Project, the Punjab government has started to upgrade the dog sterilisation project, which would be the largest in the state. Under this project, the capacity of sterilising stray dogs would be increased from present 25 per day to 100 per day.
The construction of this project has started today, wherein an ultra-modern and advanced operation theatre equipped with best machines, a kennel, a ward for post- operative facilities etc would be constructed. Accompanied by Mayor Mr Balkar Singh Sandhu, Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu today visited the dog sterilisation facility on Hambran Road.
He informed that the city residents had been demanding for a long time that the capacity of dog sterilisation facility should be increased so that the stray dog menace can be checked. He said that around Rs 1 crore would be spent on this project, that would be carried out under the Ludhiana Smart City project.
Mr Ashu stated that the Punjab government is committed to find a permanent solution to stray dog menace and that is why, he personally took up this matter and funds were allocated under Ludhiana Smart City project. He said that the construction of the new dog sterilisation facility has started today and within next six months’ time, it would be ready.
He stated that this would be the biggest project in the state, where 100 stray dogs can be sterilised per day. He assured the city residents that in coming few months, Ludhiana will have no issues related to stray dogs. Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that he would monitor the progress of this project on daily basis and asked the officials to ensure that the project is completed in set time frame.
