Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity 

Jalandhar: Department of Zoology and Botany, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity under the aegis of Aristotle Society of Life Sciences. 
Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra was the Chief Guest of the occasion. During the celebration three events were organized on First Day– Online Quiz Competition having 4 Rounds was the first event in which questions asked from IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, Wetlands & Ramsar Sites, Wildlife Sanctuaries & National Parks and Visual Round in which videos were played on the theme biodiversity. Second event in this programme was Powerpoint Presentation. The topics for the presentations were Biodiversity – The Web of Life, Threats to Biodiversity and Hotspots of Biodiversity. Third and the last event of the day was Slogan Writing Competition for which the topics were Sustaining Life on Earth, Conservation of Natural Resources and Wildlife Conservation. Total 50 students participated in these events. The panel of judges comprised of Dr. Geetanjli Kaushal, Dr. Geetanjli Mahajan and Dr. Ajitpal Singh. The second day of the programme was Valedictory Session which was started with Shabad Rendition to seek the blessings of Almighty.  After this, Co-Convenor of the programme Dr. Gagandeep Kaur welcomed the Chief Guest Dr. G.S. Samra, Deans, Heads and faculty from different departments and participants. After welcome address results of all the events were declared in which Bandana Nautiyal, Roshne, Ishpreet Singh Dhillon and Barbie got 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions respectively in Online Quiz Competition. In Powerpoint Presentations Ayush Tiwari, Anureet Sangha and Pooja Singh got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Competition for Slogan Writing was tough in which Pooja Singh and Dhawal Anand got 1st position, Anurit Sangha and Simranjeet Kaur got 2nd position, Mukesh Sahota and Kanvi Aery got 3rd position whereas Mohit Singh, Jagteshwar Singh and Bandana Nautiyal got consolation prizes. Dr G.S. Samra congratulated all the participants and appreciated the efforts of the department for such activities. He further talked about the benefits and importance of Biodiversity in our daily life. He also focused on the various threats to our Biodiversity and how we should make efforts to conserve biodiversity. Prof. Jaswinder Kaur, Convenor of the programme proposed the vote of thanks to Chief Guest, Deans, Heads, Jury members, faculty members and all the participants. Dr. Upma Arora and Prof. Surbjit Singh hosted the whole event very smoothly. Other members of the Organizing Committee Dr. Heminder Singh, Prof. Gurjinder Kaur and Prof. Devika Gandhi also attended the programme.
