To commemorate valedictory function of National Nutrition Month 2020
Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College held an online meet to commemorate the valedictory function of the National Nutrition Month 2020. Keeping in view that nutrition is one of the primary requirements for a healthy body and a sound mind, Grievances Redressal Cell of the college took the initiative to spread an awareness regarding importance of nutrition in our day to day life. In order to deal with the uncertainties of the times and adapting to the new normal, the Cell has organized various on-line events in the month of September. The first event was the inaugural message by the Principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra who emphasised the need to create awareness about good nutrition and health in the challenging times of Coronavirus pandemic. He also said that we all need to reset and reorient ourselves in this new normal to create safe and healthy environment. He further added that such programmes would be conducted to sensitize, to create awareness and to build strong characters of our students.
The second event was awareness drive in which the video messages were floated on the social media. These messages were from the eminent speakers like Dr Jaswant Kaur (Medical Officer of the college), Meenu Vahi (Dietician). The speakers emphasised on healthy eating and the need of the Nutritious Food Amid Coronavirus Crisis. On the day of the valedictory function i.e 28 September, the informative message of Dr Kiran Bains , HOD Department of Food and Nutrition Department, PAU, Ludhiana, regarding malnutrition was also circulated among students.
The third event was Poshan par charcha. Under this event, various competitions were held: Online Quiz Competition; Poster Making Competition and Grow your Nutrition. Approximately Seventy-five students actively participated in these events. There were thirty-five entries in the online Quiz competition. The broad theme was Poshan Abhiyaan - Holistic Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle. The first prize was shared by Rajneet Kaur (BPT II) and Aarti Sharma (BCA). The Second prize was shared by Kreetina Rai (B.Sc Med) Shikha (M.Sc Maths), Bandana Nautiyal (M.Sc Chemistry). The third prize was bagged by Aditi (B.Sc Non Med). Twenty-four students participated in Poster Making Competition. The theme was: My Health My Priority; Eat Right Feel Bright. The Judges for this category were: Dr Raju Sharma, Dr Geetanjali Moudgill, Dr Ajit Pal Singh and Prof Anu Kainth. Kashish Dingra got the first prize, Bandhana Nautiyal got the second prize, the third prize was shared by Tahira and Ruhi Verma and consolation was shared by Hardeep Kaur and Ashish. The third category under this event was Grow your own nutrition: Kitchen Garden at your Home, Micro-greens, Therapeutic Nutrition (Medicinal Plant). The Judges for the same were: Dr S.S Bains, Dr Geetanjali Mahajan and Dr Upma Arora. The winners were Neeraj Kashyap, Kanvi Aery, Rupinder Kaur, Tarandeep Kaur, Money Kumar, Navneet Kaur and Aarti Sharma
The programme was headed by Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Jasreen Kaur. She applauded the consistent efforts made by Grievance Redressal Cell to create awareness regarding importance of nutrition in the critical period of the pandemic. She felicitated the winners and the participants of various events. She also congratulated Dr Gagandeep Kaur, Convenor, Grievance Redressal Cell, for organizing events related to physical and mental being in these difficult times. In the end, Prof Jaswinder Kaur, HOD Botany and Zoology delivered vote of thanks. The faulty members present during the meet were: Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Prof. Sanjeev Anand, Dr Manmeet Sodhi, Prof. Himanshu and other teaching staff member.
