Mahindra NBA Challenge League: Amritsar, Mansa star on absorbing day

Ludhiana, August 26, 2012:Amritsar rode on the combined heroics of Harsimran and Krishan to edge out Patiala 32-29 in a thrilling encounter and reach the under-13 boys division quarter-finals of the Mahindra NBA Challenge at Guru Nanak stadium here today.

In a game which often looked like going either way, the difference proved to be the Amritsar duo of Harsimran and Krishan who each bagged a double figure haul of 11 points which saw their team come out on top.

In another under-13 boys pre-quarterfinal clash, Muktsar ran out comfortable 39-14 winners against PAU Model School with a 22 point effort for Harjinder.

Meanwhile, the girls under-18 division, back after a three-week hiatus, produced another cliffhanger between Mansa and Kapurthala with the former staging a spirited fightback to overturn a 14-16 half-time deficit and clinch the contest 36-35.

Other matches on the day saw Nav Bharti storm through to the last-eight of the under-16 boys division with a dominant 81-42 win over Sports School, Jalandhar.Satinder of Nav Bharti was in sparkling form as he finished the game with 30 points.

The Ludhiana leg of the Mahindra NBA Challenge enters its penultimate week next weekend before culminating on September 9.
