Major setback for Congress in Haryana, Sr. leader Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav resigned from the party.

Rohtak, October 17, 2024: Haryana Congress, which failed to form the government in the recent assembly elections, has suffered another major setback on Thursday. Former minister and senior leader Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav on Thursday resigned from the primary membership of Congress.

Announcing his decision to quit the Congress on social media platform X, Yadav said that he was "disillusioned with the party high command" for treating him "shabbily". Capt. Yadav said the decision to quit the party was "really hard" as he and his family have been associated with the grand old party for the past 70 years.

Yadav wrote on X, "I have sent my resignation letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s from Chairman AICC OBC Department and also from primary membership of Indian National Congress party."

He further said: "This decision of resigning was really hard decision with whom my family had 70 years of association as my father late Rao Abhey Singh became MLA in 1952 and thereafter I continued with family tradition but am disillusioned with the party high command for treating me shabbily after Sonia Gandhi left the post of congress President"

Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav, a big OBC leader of the Congress, had been an MLA from Rewari five times and has also been a minister in the Haryana government. Ajay Singh Yadav is the relative of former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav. Lalu Prasad's son-in-law and Captain's son Chiranjiv Rao had faced defeat in the election from Rewari.

Captain was unhappy for a long time due to being sidelined in the party. He was also unhappy with the working style of state in-charge Deepak Babaria and state president Udaybhan. After the defeat of Congress in the Haryana assembly elections, he openly mentioned the shortcomings of the party. He had said that the way various leaders started fighting over the CM’s post even before getting the mandate was a big mistake. He also accused Congress leader Maman Khan of making provocative statements against a community.

After the Congress' defeat in the assembly elections, Captain Yadav was one of the few party leaders who had openly advised the party to introspect on its failure in the 'Southern Haryana' region. ‘Southern Haryana’ is often referred to as the Ahirwal region spread across Gurgaon, Rewari and Mahendragarh.

BJP continued its hold on the Ahirwal region - winning 10 out of 11 assembly constituencies in the South Haryana districts of Gurgaon, Rewari and Mahendragarh. In the 2014 election, the BJP had won all 11 seats in Yadav Land, which was reduced to eight in the 2019 election. In the recent assembly election, the BJP maintained its lead in 10 seats in this belt. The only exception was the Nangal Chaudhary constituency in Mahendragarh, where the Congress won.

After the Congress's defeat, Yadav had posted on social media handle X, "The party should introspect for its failure in Southern Haryana especially Gurugram, Rewari, Mahendragarh and Faridabad, where it wonjust 1 seat."

He further said that Ahirwal has no representation in CWC, CEC, AICC general secretaries and in HPCC.

In the same post, he had said, "Ahirwal has no representation in the CWC, CEC, AICC general secretaries and even in HPCC. Chairman AICC OBC is an eyewash and toothless."
