Ludhiana, November 27, 2018: While welcoming the Kartarpur Corridor the Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has demanded that multiple corridors of this type should be opened for religious places and also for trading to exchange goods. This will help in economic developing and strengthen peace between India and Pakistan. In the situation when both countries are nuclear armed, it is important that not a single such event is allowed to occur which can trigger conflict between the two. Any small armed conflict can escalate into nuclear conflict which will be catastrophic with global effects leading to threat of starvation for 2 billion people.
In a statement Dr Arun Mitra – Co President IPPNW, Dr S S Soodan – President IDPD, Dr Shakeel Ur Rahman – General Secretary IDPD, Dr Bharti Uppal – Finance Secretary IDPD and Dr Balbir Shah said that International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) and IDPD have since long been demanding steps to increase people to people exchange programmes as a part of confidence building measures. Such corridors will be an effective beginning. Gradually suchlike corridors should be opened for trading. Ultimately there should be visa free movement among South Asian countries.
