Make young generation aware of freedom fighters: Shanta Kumar
Dharamshala, December 3, 2019: “It is very important to make the young generation aware of the glorious chronicles of freedom fighters, who have contributed significantly to the independence of the country so that the spirit of patriotism can be maintained among the youth”, said former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar.
Kumar was addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest at the state level Yashpal Jayanti function organized by the Department of Language and Culture Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala on Tuesday. He said that Yashpal participated very strongly in the freedom struggle of the country and had left aside all the comforts and accepted to jail for the sake of the independence of country.
While presiding over the first session of the ceremony, Yashpal’s son Anand Yashpal said that the language and culture department should prepare a documentary on Yashpal and his literature and poetry should be collected and preserved not only from the state but also from other states.
Local MLA Vishal Naihari appreciated the Department of Language and Culture and said that it is a matter of pride for us that the state level function of Yashpal Jayanti is being organized in Dharamshala. A book, The Frosted Glass, (a collection of English poetry) by Dr.Kunwar Dinesh Singh, was also released on the occasion.
Dr. Rajendra Rajan showed a short film on the life and literature of Yashpal.
Sushil Kumar Phull, KR Bharti, Prem Lal Gautam , Dr. Gautam Vyavitha , K.K.Tur,Sushil Gautam, Durgesh Nandan, Dr. Aditi Guleri, Dr. Kamal K. Pyaasa, Krishna Chandra Mahadeviya, Gangaram Raji ,Chandra Rekha Dhadwal, Harikrishna Murari, Pratap Jaryal, TC Sawan, Alka Kumari, Deepak Verma, Amarnath Dhiman, Dr. Pratyush Guleri, Prabhat Sharma, Siva Panchkaran, Rajendra Thakur, Dr. Ganga Ram Rajar, Sushil Gautam, Balvindra Singh Dhanari and may other participated.
Yashpal was born in 1903 at a village situated in the Kangra Hills. In 2003–2004, there were centenary celebrations of his birth and a commemorative postage stamp was issued by India Post on 3 December 2003.
