Malerkotla Police bust inter-state drug racket; two paddlers held
Amidst the ongoing firm crackdown on drugs on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann and guidance of DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav to eradicate the scourge of substances abuse from the state, Malerkotla Police have nabbed two smugglers of an inter-state narcotics syndicate and seized a large cache of 3.5 kg prohibited Hasish from them on Monday afternoon.
Malerkotla, December 18, 2023: Amidst the ongoing firm crackdown on drugs on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann and guidance of DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav to eradicate the scourge of substances abuse from the state, Malerkotla Police have nabbed two smugglers of an inter-state narcotics syndicate and seized a large cache of 3.5 kg prohibited Hasish from them on Monday afternoon.
The arrested accused have been identified as Muhammad Yasin alias Soni (32), resident of Khushal Basti, and Muhammad Rafi (27), of Ghata Tila Adampal village.
Briefing the media, Senior Superintendent of Police, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that acting on credible inputs about this unlawful deal, the police team led by Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh tracked the defendants to Khushal Basti locality and caught them red-handed with the banned packages. The both individuals were key suppliers of illegal substances with several cases pending across police stations in the region. They were arranging delivery of a fresh Hasish haul to state-based sellers when the CIA staff thwarted the trade.
A first information report has been filed under applicable sections of the NDPS Act against the two at the City Police Station in Malerkotla.
The detained accused will be produced before the local court and their custody will be sought to further probe the case and examine their forward and backward connections.
SSP Khakh warned of more severe penalties to drug smugglers and made an appeal to the people to come forward with drug related information.
