MALWA-DOABA LINK BRIDGE INAUGURATED

Ferozepur, September 4, 2012: The Rs.60 crore bridge on river Sutluj was today dedicated to the people of Punjab which will be vital link between Doaba and Malwa, by Ajit Singh Kohar, Minister for Transport, Punjab, Jameja Singh Sekhon, Minister for Irrigation and Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Minister for PWD.

Infact, this was the dream project of Punjab deputy chief minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal who was supposed to inaugurate the project. But, his chopper could not land due to heavy rain in the area today.

The Malwa-Doaba link bridge was started on February 15, 2010 and has been completed in record two and half years, constructed on Sultanpur Lodhi-Makhu Road , a long outstanding demand of the people of area. 

The high-level bridge is 721.24 meter long, which has 19 spans of 37.96 inch each and bridge was 22 meter wide with a carriage way of 7.5 meter and footpaths of 1.5 meters on both sides. The approach to the bridge from Sultanpur side is 575 meter long and from Makhu side it is 960 meters long.

Speaking to the media persons, the Ministers said that the SAD-BJP government is committed to  upgrade road infrastructure in the state investing more than Rs. 25,000 crore in various projects in the future. During the last five years, the Akali-BJP government had focused on infrastructure to give a face-lift  in Punjab , covering 13,000 KMs and involving four-laning, six-laning, widening and up-gradation of major roads.  In all, 27 rail over-birdges (ROBs) and rail under-bridges (RUBs) have also been completed in the State during this period at a estimated cost of Rs.400 crores.

Among others, , Pawan Kumar Tinu, chief parliamentary secretary and Hari Singh Zira, M LA were present.
