Bengaluru, November 14, 2022: This year, Manipal Hospitals dedicated November 14th to celebrating a fun-filled Grownup Children’s Day with senior citizens. The objective was to sensitize the younger population to provide love and care to their aging parents. The event was planned and executed by the marketing team with various fun activities which involved physical activities, memory games, digital sessions, and talent recognition. These activities took all the participants on a trip down to their memory lane and also encouraged them to adopt physical activity as part of their daily routine. The event was successfully attended by approximately 200 senior citizens.

As people age, changes occur both mentally and physically. A portion of the brain shrinks, mostly the frontal lobe, and a part of the limbic system which is located in the brain stem. As a result, there is a mild disruption of a person’s ability to perform daily tasks. Aging is inevitable, however, constant bodily movement, brain activity, a balanced healthy diet, and constant communication can play a key role in improving cognitive function. Other than the physical care, emotional connection with the family members such as daily conversations, an act of love, and spending time with aging parents can help their mental health as well.

Keeping this in mind, our marketing department of the Manipal hospital planned and carried out this initiative to spread out a message to the younger adult population to give love and attention to their parents as they grow older. The department also arranged for some gifts and prizes to make the event more competitive and appealing. Later it was concluded with prize distribution and a karaoke performance by the adults.

Speaking on the initiative Karthik Rajagopal, COO, Manipal Hospitals said, “As people cross 65 years of age, the bodily system both mental and physical declines. As a result, it triggers fear, and uneasiness and to combat the same the aging parents seek love and care from their family members. This initiative is to give out a message to all adult children with old parents to give them attention, love, and care, similar to that of a child.

This initiative also encourages the importance of physical and mental training/exercises which is needed for the older population to maintain their cognitive function.

Karthik Rajagopal "I'd like to congratulate the team on the success of the event and thank the team for working together and coming up with this innovative idea on this Children's Day."
