MANISH Tewari calls upon industrialists to venture into making of set-top Boxes

Ludhiana, July 22, 2013: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari called upon the industrialists especially from Ludhiana to venture into the making of Set-Top Boxes and earn money which is otherwise going to China, Taiwan and South Korea in millions of dollars from where India is importing these boxes. 

Addressing a gathering of United Cycle and Parts Manufactures Association (UCPMA) in Ludhiana, last evening, he said that about eight crore more Set- Top Boxes are still required in the third and fourth phase of the process to cover the whole country. 

Tewari said as Ludhiana has a culture of entrepreneurship so the industrialists across the country should make optimum use of this big business opportunity and earn about four to five million dollars. 

Tewari said that the digitations of cable television in the country would cross its dead line set for December 2014 due to various reasons.  He said implementation of such a big project takes time, however three metros- Delhi-Kolkata and Mumbai, digitisation has been implemented in 38 more cities of the country.  The process was started in October last year.
