Union Minister Manish Tewari lays foundation stone at various villages.

Ludhiana, January 27, 2013: The Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (IC), Manish Tewari has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the State of Punjab.

While addressing a large gathering in village Singhpura and Ayali Khurd in Ludhiana district after laying foundation stones for street drains and sewerage systems on Saturday, Tewari said that these works have to be executed by the state government. However, to immediately address the problems of the citizens of these villages, he is distributing the cheques to the Panchayats of these villages from his discretionary quota under MPLADS, the Minister said.

Tewari said that the Union Government allocates huge funds to the state governments for various development projects, yet it has been observed that it is failing in its duty in providing civic and basic amenities to the citizens in the State.

He said that in Gill Assembly Constituency, the Union Government had recently released Rs. 2.92 crore under the Rashtriya Madhymik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) for 19 schools. He said that the state is facing acute problem of lawlessness and corruption and there is no activity on the development front.

Tewari also laid similar foundation stones and distributed cheques for development in villages including Jhammat, Phagla, Guram, Khatra Chohram, Butahri, Gopalpur and Umedpur.

On the occasion, former Punjab Ministers Malkit Singh Dakha, and senior leaders including Pawan Dewan and Jasbir Singh Jassi Khangura, were also present.
