Maruti Suzuki & LPU Collaborated to host EFFICYCLE-2022 Competition at LPU Campus
Students of various engineering schools from across India created hybrid vehicles during the event
Jalandhar, November 26, 2022: Aiming to promote innovation and consciousness towards environment-friendly mobility solutions to global society, Lovely Professional University (LPU) & Maruti Suzuki collaborated to organize a 4-day national green mobility competitive event ‘Efficycle-2022: Effi Que’ at the LPU campus. In this 13th season of the event, 42 teams from all Indian states across the country registered. All of these teams exhibited the best of designing and efficiency of their respective ‘EFFI-Cycle’.
During the competition ‘Effi-cycles’ under three categories-“Conventional Hybrid; Advanced Hybrid; and, Efficycle: EffiQue” were to be developed. Separate competitions were also held on various technical and inspection rounds. These rounds were judged by officials from related industries. For this, 200+ LPU student volunteers and 70+ judges and mentors from the top automotive industry were involved.
Team ‘Cygnus’ of the Institute Of Engineering & Management, Kolkata got declared ‘Overall Winner’ in the category of ‘Conventional Hybrid’; team ‘Incredibles’ of KIET Murad Nagar in ‘Advanced Hybrid’ category; and team ‘Stallion’ of Smt Kashibai Navale College of Engineering, Pune, in the category of Efficycle: Effi-Que.
Cash prizes worth Rs 4 lakhs, trophies, medals and certificates were distributed to the winners of different competitions. LPU's team Illuminati Racers won the Clean PIT Award. Also, the award for the ‘Best Woman Participant’ was bagged by Devath Akhil from the team Illuminati Racers.
The event’s static and dynamic rounds included cost, innovation evaluations, tests for electric drive, figure-of-8, acceleration, brakes, drive excellence and more. It was also unique to see all girls’ teams competing neck to neck with their male counterparts.
LPU Chancellor Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal chaired the concluding award ceremony. Congratulating the collaborators for creating the needed ecosystem for future engineers, Dr Mittal advised students to work hard for innovative creations. He expressed his happiness that this year two more categories were added to the competition. Dr Mittal also admired, “Though this event is happening after a gap of two years because of COVID 19 pandemic, I am happy to see such a huge assemblage of participants from across India.”
The event was supported by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), and Society for Automotive Engineering-Northern India Section (SAENIS). All of these institutions’ top officials also graced the occasion. In fact, the talented young engineers of the country participate in the Effi-Cycle competition, which is considered one of India's biggest automobile competitions.
