Bathinda, October 29,2024: On World Stroke Day today , Max Super Specialty Hospital, Bathinda, highlighted the critical importance of timely intervention in brain stroke cases. Dr. Pallav Jain, Neurologist said that four-hour-and-thirty-minute window after symptom onset is crucial for effective treatment.
Dr Jain said that while thousands of strokes occur daily in India, only a small percentage of patients receive timely treatment.
The stroke incidence in India is significantly higher than the global average, largely due to limited awareness about the stroke and its preventive measures, he informed.
Dr. Jain emphasized that stroke remains a leading cause of disability and death, underscoring the need for increased public understanding and early intervention.
Stroke is a leading cause of disability and death worldwide and contributes to more deaths annually than AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined, he pointed out.
Dr. Jain also outlined key stroke symptoms which include changes in balance, eyes, facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulties.
Every minute counts as 1.9 million brain cells die with each passing moment during a stroke, he asserted.
American Stroke Association’s revised guidelines recommend mechanical thrombectomy for stroke treatment, emphasizing the need for patients to reach stroke-ready hospitals without delay, he elaborated.
Dr. Jain urged people to adopt healthy lifestyle choices, including regular exercise, balanced diets, and managing chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, to mitigate stroke risk.
