Mohali, February 9, 2025: Max Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali, hosted a seminar today titled ‘Clinical Updates on Breast Cancer 2025.’ The event brought together over 80 oncology experts from Tricity and Punjab to discuss the latest advancements in oncology, specifically focusing on breast cancer treatment.

The seminar was led by Dr. Sachin Gupta, Director, Medical Oncology and Hemato-Oncology, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali. It began with a warm welcome from Dr. Gupta, who set the tone for the event, emphasizing the importance of learning, innovation, and collaboration in healthcare.

During the seminar, Dr. Sachin Gupta addressed the audience, stating, “The treatment for breast cancer depends on the subtype of cancer and its stage. If the cancer has spread beyond the breast to the lymph nodes (stages II or III) or other parts of the body (stage IV), the treatment plan may vary. Today, thanks to precision diagnosis and personalized medicine, breast cancer patients can be managed more effectively. In recent years, several new targeted therapies have been approved for breast cancer, but there remains a need for more and better treatment options, especially for complex cases like triple-negative breast cancer, where chemotherapy is currently the only option.”

Dr. Gupta further explained, “Radiation therapy plays a crucial role in treating residual microscopic cancer cells left in the breast tissue or lymph nodes, reducing the chances of cancer recurring on the chest wall. In more advanced stages, cancer can erode through the skin, leading to open sores (ulceration), though these may not always be painful. Women with breast wounds that do not heal should seek medical attention to have a biopsy performed.”

Technological innovations such as radiomics and artificial intelligence, along with the tireless efforts of researchers, have opened the door to precision diagnosis, enhanced treatment strategies, and more personalized care for breast cancer patients. The future of breast cancer treatment is being shaped by the dedication and commitment of the scientific community.
