May Measurement month observed by inaugurating 3D Echo Cardiography Machine

Ludhiana, May 30, 2019: World Hypertension Day falls in the month of May. World Hypertension Week has kept May measurement month for increasing awareness among the masses about high blood pressure which affects 20% of the population.

World Hypertension Month was observed today in Hero DMC Heart Institute by conducting month long free Blood Pressure check up in various areas of the hospital and outside locations of the city. With the aim to create awareness and importance of knowing what is your blood pressure measurement, this year theme of the World Hypertension Month was “Know your Numbers”. The camp was started from 1st May, 2019 onwards and till now, more than 3500 people have got their blood pressure (BP) examined.

On the occasion, Secretary DMCH Managing Society Sh Prem Kumar Gupta formally inaugurated 3D Echo Cardiography Machine being installed in Hero DMCH Heart institute. Other dignitaries who present on the occasion were Vice Principal and Chief Cardiologist- Dr G S Wander, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Medical Supdts. - Dr Bishav Mohan, Dr Ashwani Kumar Chaudhary, Dr Sandeep Sharma and other faculty members of HDHI.

Secretary DMCH Managing Society- Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said that DMCH is the first institute of the region which has acquired 3D Echo Cardiography Machine. It is an advanced version of Echo Cardiography Machine which helps to visualize the structural heart defects and helps to manage the complex structural heart disease, such as congenital and valvular defects. Sh Gupta said that DMCH and its unit Hero DMC Heart Institute has always been organizing health awareness lecture, camps and other activities as well.

According to– Dr G S Wander, Hypertension is a major cause of many health problems such as strokes, heart attacks and kidney disease. Hypertension is also known as ‘silent killer’. Many people who suffer from hypertension are not aware that they have it as there can be no symptoms and often people only find out after suffering a heart attack or stroke. Dr Wander further said our main purpose of conducting this long month free BP camp to create awareness regarding side effects of high blood pressure and motivate the general public to adopting healthy life style.

Dr Bishav Mohan, Professor of cardiology highlighted that, due to the increasing number of patients who are suffering from hypertension, Hero DMC Heart Institute has launched a Health Talk Campaign which will be regularly held on every Tuesday and Friday in main Reception area of HDHI from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm to create awareness among the public regarding various heart diseases and its genetic risk factors. In this campaign experts will also discuss how heart diseases are strongly linked to the family history and how can the family members take preventive measures against this problem. Various health tips regarding adopting healthy life style, proper intake of nutritious diet will be provided to the general public by the experts of HDHI.
