Mayor starts upgradation work in Sherpur’s burial ground
Complete facelift of the graveyard with grant of Rs 38.93 lakh- Mohammad Gulab
Ludhiana: Fulfilling the long-pending demand of Muslims for upgrading Sherpur’s burial ground, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu along with Punjab Backward Classes Land Development and Finance Corporation (Backfinco) vice-chairman Mohammad Gulab on Thursday inaugurated the upgradation works of Rs 38.93 lakh, which would be used to build boundary wall, rooms and maintenance of the graveyard.
Punjab Backward Classes Land Development and Finance Corporation (Backfinco) vice-chairman Mohammad Gulab said the Muslim community in Sherpur, Dhandari, Focal Point and surrounding areas had been seeking improvement in the infrastructure of the burial place for several years, following which he took up the matter with Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu for financial assistance to carry out the works there.
Mohammad Gulab thanked Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Mayor for their personal interest in the work.
Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said that Punjab government is committed for the welfare of the community and added that he would ensure regular inspections of the ongoing works for timely completion.
Prominent among present on the occasion included Ishwarjot Cheema, Abdul Shakur Mangat, Mohammad Jalaluddin and others.
