Ludhiana, July 26, 2023: Continuing the drive against industrial units dumping untreated waste in the sewer lines of Municipal Corporation (MC), the civic body snapped the sewer connection of a printing unit - Mittal Printing in Janakpuri area on Wednesday.

The civic body had received a complaint regarding colourful waste flowing in sewer lines, following which inspection was conducted in the area.

Apart from snapping the sewer connection of the unit, civic body officials also asked the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) officials to visit the spot and take action against the unit as per the norms.
    
MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal said that dumping of untreated industrial waste in sewer lines affects the working of sewer treatment plants (STP) and adds to the pollution in buddha nullah. The concerned staff has been directed to take strict action against the illegal activity and regular inspections are being conducted in this regard. Recommendations are also done to PPCB for taking strict action against those units as per the norms. 

In the month of June, the civic body had also snapped sewer connections of nine electroplating units for dumping untreated waste in the sewer lines. These units were situated in Industrial area C, Focal Point among other areas. 

Recently, the civic body had also plugged an illegal sewer line through which untreated dyeing industry was being dumped in MC sewer lines from 50mld Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) on Tajpur road.
