MC takes up work of Focal Point roads: MP Arora

Ludhiana, April 11, 2023: The work of reconstruction of roads in Focal Points in Ludhiana has begun with initiative taken by Sanjeev Arora, MP (Rajya Sabha).

Arora said he has been informed by MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal that the work to reconstruct 900-ft-long stretch of road from Railway crossing to Yard chowk in Focal Point area has started on Saturday and it is likely to be completed in a day or so. Initially, MC had planned to reconstruct the road from Railway Crossing till Dhandari Bridge, but in between some works were allotted by PSIEC. In view of this, MC is now reconstructing the road from Railway Crossing till Yard Chowk and the remaining work will be taken up by PSIEC.  Tender process is also going on for reconstructing the road from HP Dharam Kanda towards Aarti Steels & Punjab Concast.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt officially that apart from this, the State Government has also allocated a sum of Rs 45 crore to the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) for reconstructing different roads in the Focal Point area. It has been learnt that the roads being reconstructed by the PSIEC, include Phase V, Jeevan Nagar, Hosiery Knitwear, Service Road, Phase VIII, Phase VIII (34 acre). These roads are owned and maintained by the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC). There has been a long pending demand of industry to reconstruct these roads.

These roads were lying in a dilapidated condition for a long time. As result, inconvenience was being caused to industrialists, workers, and the residents of industrial areas. It was even very difficult to transport goods on these roads. The funds for reconstruction of these roads were released after Sanjeev Arora, MP took up the matter with the Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua. Arora had impressed upon the state government to release funds for improving the condition of these roads.

Some industrialists had also raised the issue of these dilapidated roads in CII Ludhiana Annual Session 2022-23 and Interactive Session held on Ludhiana Industrial Growth and Ideal Investment Destination in February this year. In reply, Arora had given complete assurance to the industry that roads in all eight phases of focal points would be renovated within this year.

Arora has thanked MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal and the PSIEC authorities for starting work of reconstruction of the roads. He said the industry’s work was getting affected badly due to poor condition of roads over the years. He said he was approached by many industry big-wigs to improve the condition of the roads in focal point areas. “I’m hopeful that all the focal point roads will be reconstructed within timeframe and the industry will feel a sigh of relief”, he said.   

Further, Arora said he will keep on doing follow-up of the matter till all the roads are reconstructed.

Meanwhile, industry has thanked Arora for taking the initiative to get the roads reconstruct in Focal Point areas.
