MCL organises walkathon, street play to spread message of cleanliness

Ludhiana, October 2, 2016: In order to commemorate the second anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission on Gandhi Jayanti the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) organised a walkathon and street play on Sunday morning.
Through this exercise they spread the message among people to maintain hygiene in their surroundings.
The Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria flagged off the walkathon where additional deputy commissioner (development) Apneet Ryat, additional commissioner Surabhi Malik, MOH Dr Charanjit Uppal, Vipul Malhotra, sanitary inspectors and sanitation employees were present. In this walkathon employees from HDFC Bank, members of NGOs Roundtable and Sambhav Foundation, members from CII etc also participated.
The walkathon was started from the Guru Nanak Stadium and it ended at the Rose Garden. The participants in the walkathon were holding placards in their hands and they spread the message that people should keep their city clean as they maintain cleanliness in their houses. At the end of walkathon a street play was also staged in Rose Garden.
Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said, "It was on October 2 2014 that PM Narendra Modi had started a mission of Swachh Bharat and in two years people have become aware of keeping surroundings clean but still lot more needs to be done." He said that they are taking steps to improve situation but actual picture will change when all the people would support in this cause.
Meanwhile the additional commissioner Surabhi Malik said that idea is to involve public in cleanliness of the city and in the past few months change has been witnessed so they will continue such drives in future for better results.
