MD Markfed and DC take stock of wheat procurement in grain markets

While interacting with the farmers and other stakeholders to enquire the ground level situation in the grain markets, Markfed Managing Director Girish Dayalan and Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said that the district administration had elaborate arrangements for the smooth and hassle-free procurement of the golden grains. They said that an effective mechanism was already evolved in the grain markets to ensure wheat brought by the farmers in the mandis was purchased immediately without causing any inconvenience to them. The officials were instructed to ensure timely lifting of the produce from the markets to avoid unnecessary storage issues. They said that the moisture content had also found to be within prescribed norm of 12 percent.
Girish Dayalan and Sakshi Sawhney informed that there was the possibility of around 8.11 lakh MT wheat arrival in Ludhiana, of which 302392.3 MT wheat had already arrived. They said that 249722-MT wheat had also been purchased by various agencies. Payments worth Rs 467.6 crore had been made to farmers in Ludhiana. They said that procurement operations in the district were going on very smoothly. They also said that officials were duty-bound to ensure smooth and hassle free procurement and lifting to facilitate the farmers.
