IKGPTU organized Media Fest 2023 at main campus, various competitions marked success among secondary school students of Jalandhar & Kapurthala districts
Jalandhar/Kapurthala, November 29, 2023: Media Study is at the forefront in talent development. This study is a top subject to develop your personality, to polish your skills & it gives satisfactory results immediately. Even though we give importance to becoming doctors and engineers, the talent and satisfaction within us lies only in the study of Journalism and Mass Communication. Other professions give us professional growth only, but it is the study of media that hones our talent. These views are expressed by Dr. Susheel Mittal, Vice Chancellor, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU). VC Dr Mittal was addressing the inaugural session of Media Fest 2023 as Chief Guest. The event was organized in the university main campus Kapurthala road on Wednesday by the department of Journalism & Mass Communication.
This media fest was organized for secondary school students of Jalandhar & Kapurthala districts. Various activities & competitions were conducted among secondary school students in this Media Fest. Registrar Dr. S.K.Misra was the special guest in the inaugural session. Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Chawla and Dean R&D Dr. Hitesh Sharma were also present in the guest panel. Vice Chancellor Dr. Susheel Mittal congratulated the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for this grand event. The event aimed to inspire and motivate young minds towards creativity, innovation, and the pursuit of higher education.
The fest featured five exhilarating competitions designed to explore and celebrate various facets of media and communication: Jock Talk (Radio Jockey), Catch the Glimpse (Photography), Nach Balliye (Dance Competition), Be a Reporter (Report Writing), Ad-Mad Show (Advertise with Fun). 200 students from various schools of Kapurthala and Jalandhar districts enthusiastically participated, showcasing their energy and passion for media-related activities.
Dr. Ranbir Singh, Head of the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, shared insights into the value of hard work and consistency in achieving success, emphasizing the unparalleled role of creativity in the vast field of mass media. The judging panel, consisting of esteemed professionals from media industry including the Sufi sisters Kamya-Bhumika-Zindagi from Jalandhar, Sheetal Thakur, CEO of 5WH Broadcasting Production Pvt.Ltd., Karamveer Sandhu, Professional Photographer and University Deputy Registrar-Public Relations Rajneesh K. Sharma, contributed to the success of the competitions.
Dr. Sarabjeet Singh Mann, Assistant Professor from the Department of Humanities, Cultural, and Linguistic Studies, conducted the event stage with finesse. Acknowledging the contributions of staff members including H.K Singh, Mangla Sahni, Garima Ganghariya, and Rajwinder Kaur, the Media Festival 2023 not only served as a platform for showcasing talent but also as a catalyst for encouraging the pursuit of higher education and fostering a creative spirit among the young participants.
Dr. Ekta Mahajan, Assistant Professor, Department of JMC, eloquently proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and dignitaries for their invaluable contributions to the success of the Media Festival 2023.

MDSD School Kapurthala won the overall trophy of IKG PTU's Media Fest 2023. In AD Mad Show, MDSD School Kapurthala stood first, DMS School Jalandhar stood second and Dhaliwal Bet School Kapurthala stood third. In the radio jockey competition, Shivika, a student of DMS School, Jalandhar, came first, Kiran, a student of Dhaliwal Bet Senior Secondary School, Kapurthala, came second. In the photography competition, Jaskaran Singh, a student of GSSS Bhandal Bet School, won the first prize, Anmol Veer, a student of Senior Secondary School Dhaliwal Bet, got the second prize, DMS School Jalandhar and student Sam got the third prize. In Nach Baliye, the first prize went to GGHS School Kapurthala, the second prize went to the team of Hindu Girls Collegiate School Kapurthala and the third prize went to MDSD School! Pancham and team of Parvati Jain School Jalandhar received the Appreciation Award. For Report Writing, first prize was given to Jaspreet Singh, MDSD School, second prize was given to Ishwarjit Bawa, Guru Harkishan Public School, Kapurthala, third prize was given to Paramveer Singh, Dhaliwal Bet School and commendation prize was given to Parul Verma, Hindu Girls College School, Kapurthala.
