Medical Education and Research Minister issued appointment letters to 233 employees of various categories

Chandigarh: In view of COVID-19 to fill the shortage of staff in Government Medical Colleges Patiala and Amritsar, Medical Education and Research Minister Mr. O.P. Soni today issued appointment letters to 233 employees of various categories including 219 staff nurses, 5 radiographers and 9 lab technicians at his residence in Sector-7, Chandigarh.

Disclosing this here Mr. Soni said that appointment letters have been issued to 2 staff nurses today as tokens while appointment letters have been sent to 217 staff nurses by post. He said that the selection of staff has been done purely on the merit basis and the written test was conducted by Baba Farid University.

He said that these appointments has done on the directive of Chief Minister, Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh to address the shortage of staff in the medical college/ hospitals as soon as possible in view of COVID-19. Out of the newly appointed staff nurses about 119 would be posted at Government Medical College Amritsar and 100 at Government Medical College Patiala.

While congratulating the newly appointed candidates, Soni said that Staff Nurses play significant role to facilitate healthcare facilities and these newly appointed staff nurses would certainly helpful to provide health facilities to the people in the government medical colleges/hospitals. He said that they are getting the opportunity to perform social service with their job. Therefore, they should serve the people with keen interest. This would also build their image and prestige in the society besides raising their social status.

The newly appointed staff nurses expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister, Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh and Medical Education and Research Minister Mr. O.P. for providing job opportunity and assured that they would perform their duty diligently.

After this Mr. Soni held a video conferencing meeting with the Principals of Government Medical College Patiala, Government Medical College Amritsar and Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital Faridkot in view of COVID-19. The meeting reviewed enhancing the testing capacity in the medical colleges, improving the emergency services to deal with the pandemic and facilities being provided to the patients .

Secretary Medical Education and Research Department Mr. D.K. Tiwari and Director Medical Education and Research Dr. Avneesh Kumar were also present on this occasion.
