Chandigarh, July 31, 2024: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Sangrur Lok Sabha MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Wednesday raised the issue of Rajpura-Chandigarh railway connectivity for the Malwa region in Parliament. He said that the people of Malwa region are dependent on Chandigarh for health facilities, education and government work, so it is very important to connect this route through the railway.
Meet Hayer blamed the Badal family and said that earlier this route could not be completed because buses of a political family used to run on this route, but now there is a government of Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the state. Now it can be possible because there is full support from the Punjab government. That is why I request that the route be completed. This will also benefit the people financially and road accidents will also reduce, provided the railway accidents are reduced.
At the beginning of his speech, Meet Hayer paid tribute to martyr Udham Singh and said that he was a resident of Sunam which comes under my Lok Sabha constituency. Today is his martyrdom day.
He made another demand and said that the concession given to senior citizens in railways, which has been stopped by the government for the last four years, should be restarted because a large number of senior citizens travel by railway every day. The 40% concession given to transgenders and 50% concession given to women has also been stopped in this year's budget, it should also be restarted.
Meet Hayer demanded the extension of the EDFC route in Parliament and said that it is from Ludhiana to Bengal right now. I request that it be extended to Jalandhar and Amritsar. He said that the industry of Punjab is currently dead while sports and leather goods are made in Jalandhar and fabric is made in Amritsar. The expansion of this route will boost the industry of both places. Apart from this, he mentioned that the construction of a railway flyover takes more time than the road and said that the railway flyover of Doraha is pending for a long time due to which connectivity is not possible, please get it completed.
