Meeting held for development of community projects
A meeting of representatives of five surrounding gram panchayats of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni was held at the university campus on Tuesday.
Nauni, January 18, 2023: A meeting of representatives of five surrounding gram panchayats of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni was held at the university campus on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajeshwar Singh Chandel. It was attended by the Pradhans and Uppradhans of Nauni Majhgaon, Oachghat, Shamrod, Daro Devria and Kotla Panjola gram panchayats and focussed on the development of different community projects in these panchayats with the university.
Prof Chandel informed that the main aim of the meeting was to understand the needs of these panchayats and how community-based projects could be developed by the university in these areas integrating the resources of the panchayats.
The panchayat representatives and university scientists discussed how projects could be prepared focusing on utilizing traditional knowledge and technologies to develop agricultural models integrating traditional beekeeping, plantation of multipurpose trees and fodder-based grasses, natural farming practices, millet production and traditional mud-based community structures for storing agricultural produce.
Prof Chandel said that possibilities of developing different projects integrating sustainable agricultural horticultural activities with other activities as per the need of the area for the benefit of the residents of these panchayats were discussed with the panchayat representatives. The importance of millets and the promotion of natural farming through ATMA, water conservation, and seed and nursery production activities in these panchayats were also taken up during the meeting.
Madan Himachali and Hardev Singh from Nauni Majhgaon, Hemraj and Bala Ram from Kotla Panjola, Poonam and Naresh Kumar from Oachghat, Nanda Ram and Jagmohan Thakur from Shamrod and Devinder Singh and Kamal Dev from Daro Deoria panchayats attended the meeting. Dr. Inder Dev, Director of Extension Education, Dr. Satish Sharma, Joint Director Research, Dr. Narender Bharat, HOD Seed Science and Technology, Dr. Sudhir Verma and Dr. Rohit Vashisth was also present on the occasion.
