Meeting of College Development Council, Panjab University held today
A meeting of the College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was held today in the Seminar Hall of Rajiv Gandhi College Bhawan of Panjab University, Chandigarh, under the Chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar. Prof. Anju Suri, Dean, College Development Council welcomed the members.
Chandigarh, December 27, 2022: A meeting of the College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was held today in the Seminar Hall of Rajiv Gandhi College Bhawan of Panjab University, Chandigarh, under the Chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar. Prof. Anju Suri, Dean, College Development Council welcomed the members.
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, in his presidential remarks drew the attention of the members present on making rigorous and sincere efforts on research and development in the colleges, and improving the NAAC Ranking. He also remarked that due care should be taken to make education inclusive for those students who could hardly afford to pay college fee.
The College Development meeting succeeded the Standing Committee meetings held on 23.11.2022 and 09.12.2022 respectively.
An amount of Rs.60 lakhs has been approved by the College Development Council to be disbursed as scholarship to the students of affiliated colleges of Panjab University belonging to following categories, (1) Means-cum-Merit (2) Physically Disabled (3) Sports (4) Single Girl Child (5) AIDS/Cancer Patients (6) Youth Welfare (7) Transgender.
It is pertinent to mention here that for the first time the office of Dean College Development Council had received as large a number of application forms in the above categories for grant of scholarship as 2007, out of which 1687 eligible applicants shall receive scholarship as has been approved by College Development Council (CDC).
For the first time, an altogether new category, namely, ‘wards whose both parents died due to Covid-2019’ has also been added in the list of categories for grant of scholarship from next year.
A total of Rs.15 lakhs has been sanctioned for providing financial subsidy to the affiliated colleges for organizing Seminars/Workshops etc. on academic related topics. The proposals for conducting such academic activities were received from exceptionally large number of colleges and 66 eligible colleges – 46 Degree Colleges and 20 Education Colleges – shall obtain financial subsidy as approved by CDC for holding seminar/conference/symposia etc.
A sum of Rs.20,000/- each has been approved to be given to five teachers of affiliated colleges of Panjab University for presenting the paper within India and Rs.70,000/- each to two teachers for presenting the paper outside India.
