Ludhiana: FIEO Ludhiana Chapter organized a meeting to discuss issues related to exports logistics at Ludhiana. The meeting was chaired by Mr. T S Ahluwalia, Convener, FIEO National Committee on Ports & Logistics along with Mr. S C Ralhan, Past President, FIEO. Issues related to Exports logistics were discussed.
While addressing the participants during the interactive meeting, Mr T S Ahluwalia said that, “The Logistics management is an area of research that has been getting increasing attention over the last two decades, as it leads to reduced operational costs, improved delivery performance and increased customer satisfaction levels, thereby making an organization more competitive in terms of cost, quality, delivery and flexibility. The Logistics sector in INDIA has today become an area of priority. One prime reason for the same stems from the reason that years of substantial growth in the Indian economy have resulted in a significant rise in the volume of freight traffic moved. The large volume of traffic has provided for growth opportunities in the area of transportation, warehousing, freight forwarding, express cargo delivery, container services, shipping services etc. Strength of the logistic sector is likely to be one of the key determinants of the pace of the future growth of the economy”.
He also added, “In India road has become the predominant mode of transportation of freight cargo. In India nearly 60% of the cargo is moved by road, 32% by rail, and rest by the coastal shipping, airways and inland waterways. It is recognized that movement of long haul bulk traffic by road is less efficient than by rail. But road is still preferred over rail, because the rail freight tariffs are high, Important rail networks are over saturated, Transit times are long and uncertain, Less flexibility in carrying different types of products & Railway carriage not easy for industry which cannot provide full train loads. To push the country’s economic growth further and taking edge over other countries, smart logistic management and industrial policies with special focus or incentive for landlocked state, could play and important role. FIEO has always been advocating the role logistics pay in overall induatrial as well as economic scenario, this sectors offers huge opportunities for both Indian and Global players. To explore & exploit opportunities in this sector, FIEO has also been organising LOGIX INDIA conclave on annual basis, This year’s LOGIX conclave was a huge success, as well over 3500 business to business meetings along with parallel sessions on different issues, challenges and above all opportunities with regard to the logistics sector across India and the world was organized and key issues and chalanges were taken up with ministries for future Policy(s) consideration”.
The meeting was attended prominent 25 exporters from the region.
