Meeting with Traders/Shopkeepers Associations and Indirect Taxes Consultant Association to Enhance GST Registrations and Revenue by the Department of Excise & Taxation, O/o ACST, Ludhiana-3.
Ludhiana, January 9, 2025: A meeting was held with representatives of Ludhiana Chemist Association, Akalgarh Market Shopkeepers Association, Meena Bazaar Association, Ghumar Mandi Market Welfare Association, Ludhiana and Indirect Taxes Consultant Association, Ludhiana to sensitize them about the importance of registration under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act. It aimed to encourage unregistered businesses to come under the GST umbrella and contribute to the
growth of tax revenue. Areas such as Feroze Gandhi Market, Aarti Chowk, Ferozepur Road and adjacent areas of Ludhiana-3 were covered. Dealers were sensitised regarding registration and the survey campaign being launched by the GST department w.e.f 10th of January, 2024.
During the meeting, Shinee Singh, Assistant Commissioner State Tax, Ludhiana-3, and Hardeep Singh Ahuja, State Tax Inspector emphasized the benefits of GST registration.
Meeting held with Shoe traders and Readymade garments dealers by Sukhwinder Singh, State Tax Officer at Akalgarh Market and Meena Bazar. A similar meeting was held with Chemists and Medicines dealers at Pindi Street by Upkar Singh, STO and Phaldeep Singh, STI. The appeal is to the general public/traders/ shopkeepers to get themselves registered under GST Act, 2017 be it a goods sector or service sector. ‘The aim of the department is to get hundred percent registration done and to fulfil that goal the ETOs and the Inspectors of the department would be there in the fields/wards regarding the survey of unregistered dealers w.e.f 10th of January, 2025’.
The department of behalf of the government assured to provide additional support and resources to help businesses comply with GST regulations. Grievances of some local dealers were taken into account as per law. The meeting was a significant step towards enhancing GST registration and revenue. Eti Gupta, STO and Mitika Mittal, STI campaigned in the Ghumar Mandi, College Road, Cemetery Road on the similar lines. ACST, Ludhiana-3 informed that similar meetings and visits shall be done on 9th of January at Dandi Swami road, PAU and surrounding area, South City and Haibowal Kalan and other pockets of Ludhiana for identification of scope of registration, in the jurisdictional areas of Ludhiana District-3 by ACST, Ludhiana-3’.
