New Delhi/ Chandigarh, July 1, 2024: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer gave his maiden speech in the parliament today. Meet Hayer began his speech by thanking the people of Sangrur for sending him to the Lok Sabha as their representative and raised various issues regarding Punjab in his speech.
Meet Hare, while participating in the debate on the presidential address, expressed regret that the name of Punjab was not even mentioned in the address. He said that the Punjabis contributed 80 percent to the sacrifices made for the freedom of the country, suffered during partition, farmers of Punjab filled the country's food reserves and Punjabi players are continuously bringing laurels to our nation in all sports.
Meet Hayer also spoke about the Centre's discrimination against Punjab and extra pressure on the industries of Punjab by giving tax concessions to the neighboring states. He also demanded the release of Rs 8,000 crores of RDF's withheld money.
Meet Hare also raised the issue of harassment of opposition leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Manis Sisodia, Hemant Soren by the central agencies. He criticised the Agniveer scheme and also demanded the restoration of the old pension scheme for the welfare of employees.
Meet Hayer said that Punjabi is a proud state. They do not beg but they always raise their voice for their rights. Our farmer was not allowed to go beyond Haryana to meet their elected government and demand their rights.
Meet Hayer said that there are talks about making India self-dependent. Punjab's farmers made India self-dependent in food. When the country had to ask for help from powers like America, our Punjab brought about the Green Revolution and made India self-dependent. For this, we had to pay the price. Our land became poisonous. The water level of our Punjab has gone down to 400 to 500 feet. And the sad thing is that the farmers who brought the Green Revolution are being stopped from coming to Delhi today and they are sitting at the borders on the roads.
