Ludhiana, June 20, 2022: Members of Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal (PPBM) held a protest in the Shawl Market here today against the "anti-traders" policies of the AAP government in Punjab.
Protesters were addressed by state general secretary Sunil Mehra, district chairman Pawan Lehar and secretary Rajesh Gupta. Mehra said that there existed a recession-like situation in the market due to the gang wards occurring in the state because traders from outside feel scared of coming to this state.
Mehra regretted that the state government had given no relaxation to the traders' community in the budget. On the other hand, the traders were being issued advance bills of electricity. As a result, the traders were getting hit financially very badly.
He added that the Mann government before coming to power in Punjab had made several promises but it seemed the government had forgotten all its promises. All the promises seemed to be a bundle of lies, he said.
Adding, Mehra said the Centre had given some relief to people by reducing excise duty on petrol and diesel but the state government had not reduced VAT on petrol and diesel. Rather, the AAP government in Punjab preferred to make the liquor cheaper. "It is thus clear that the Bhagwant Mann government is not pro-people's government", he remarked. He termed the state government as "anti-traders".
Om Parkash Singla, Sudarshan Narang, Lalit Jain, Dilip Grover, Vinod Jain, Narendra Chopra, Nitish Bajaj, Rajiv Goyal and Purshotam were among those present on the occasion.
