The match, which was also DFC's first home game of the season, saw the Warriors face off against a formidable Shillong Lajong side, who scored 8 goals against Rajasthan United just a few matches ago. However, DFC were undaunted by the challenge and came out with a clear mission to make this historic day memorable.
It was a packed house at the Coach Ali Hassan Football Stadium, in Mahilpur, filled with the Warriors army, and the fans turned up in numbers to make the occasion more special. Adding on the moment, was Mahilpur's son of the soil, Harmanjot Khabra being in the matchday squad for DFC.
DFC started with a very positive intent since minute one of the game, and the team's determination paid off in the 8th minute when Hriata scored an inch-perfect finish from a chaotic moment in the box.
The crowd erupted in joy, and the drums and vocal support made it difficult for Shillong Lajong to control the game. It was almost as if a battle zone for the Warriors of DFC.
DFC dominated the game, and looked very strong, but a defensive error allowed Lajong to equalize before halftime. However, the Warriors came out with renewed focus and intent in the second half, and Samir Binong rose to the occasion, scoring his 5th goal of the campaign to give DFC the lead once again.
Hriata picked up an assist, contributing to both DFC goals, and soon after, Himanshu Jangra capitalized on a loose ball to increase the lead, with a clinical finish, giving DFC a strong hold in the game with a 3-1 scoreline.
The cherry on top was the appearance of Mahilpur's own Harmanjot Singh Khabra, who came on the pitch, making his first appearance as a player this season for DFC. With his experience, he ensured the scoreline remained 3-1, much to the delight of the home fans.
The victory marked a special and memorable day for DFC and their fans, who united to make this historic occasion special. The team's win also propelled them to the 5th position in the points table, and they now remain unbeaten in their last three games, with two wins and six goals scored in those matches.
