Ludhiana, February 13, 2025: A memorial event was organised with deep respect and enthusiasm to honor the legacy of Late Bakhtawar Singh Gill, former president of Guru Hargobind Khalsa Colleges (Degree College, College of Education, and College of Pharmacy), Gurusar Sadhar. 

The event commenced with the conclusion of the Akhand Path Sahib at Nihang Shamsher Singh Hall, followed by a soul-stirring Gurbani Kirtan performed by students from Dashmesh Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Heran, and the music departments of all three colleges. 

Former Principal of the college, Manjit Singh Khattra, and Sardarni Harbans Kaur Khattra attended the event as special guests. 

College Principal Inderjit Singh welcomed all the dignitaries and highlighted the social contributions of Bakhtawar Singh Gill. 

In his address, Manjit Singh Khattra shared cherished memories of S. Bakhtawar Singh Gill and recounted the history of the establishment of GHG educational institutions. He emphasized that health and education form the backbone of any society and acknowledged Bakhtawar Singh Gill’s immense contributions to these fields. 

As a tribute, a blood donation camp was organised under the leadership of Dr. Gulinder Singh, with a team from DMC Hospital, Ludhiana. Students actively participated in the camp by registering and donating blood. Additionally, a medical check-up camp was conducted by a team from Premjit Memorial Hospital, Gurusar Sadhar, including Dr. Davinder Kumar (SMO), Dr. Gaurav Chopra, Dr. Ajeevir Singh, Dr. Sarvotam Singh, Dr. Davinder Singh, and Madam Sonam. Free medicines were also provided to needy patients by Khalsa Colleges. The inauguration of these camps was conducted jointly by Mahinder Kaur Gill, Manjit Singh Gill (President, College Governing Council), Hareena Gill, Manjit Singh Khattra, and Harbans Kaur Khattra.

An inter-college Gurbani singing competition saw enthusiastic participation from several teams. Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, secured the first position, followed by GHG Khalsa College of Pharmacy, Gurusar Sadhar, in second place, and GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, in third. Consolation prizes were awarded to GHG Khalsa College of Education, Gurusar Sadhar, and Gobind National College, Narangwal.

Individually, Chahat from Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, secured the first position, Sukhdev Singh from GHG Khalsa College of Education, Gurusar Sadhar, came second, and Harshpreet Singh from GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, secured the third position. The winners were honored with trophies by GHG Khalsa Colleges. The panel of judges included Smt. Sukhwinder Kaur, Asees Singh Sethi, and Varinder Singh Bhambra. A book exhibition was also set up by Gurmat Book Centre, Ludhiana, attracting great interest from students who eagerly purchased books.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pargat Singh Garcha, Principal, College of Education. Among the distinguished guests were S. Jagjit Singh Talwandi (Member, SGPC, Sri Amritsar Sahib), Dr. Satvinder Kaur (Principal, College of Pharmacy), Dilawar Singh Gill, Smt. Noor Gill, Dr. Sarabjit Kaur, Dr. Swaranjit Singh Deol, Dr. Harjinder Singh Brar, Dr. Jagjit Singh Brar, Charanjit Singh Gill, Inderjit Singh Gill, Avtar Singh Gill, along with several village leaders, panchayat members, and other eminent personalities. The stage was efficiently managed by Dr. Jaspreet Kaur Gulati. The event concluded with the serving of Guru Ka Langar.
