Military veteran returns to roots and organic poultry farming

Dharamshala: Veteran military heroes are leaders with vast experience to handle adversity. They are endowed with energy and enthusiasm and their integrity beyond reproach.

The corona pandemic has created a health adversity across the globe embarking immunity is need of the hour and it is toward the end that Colonel (Retd) Vinod Awasthy, Sena Medal, a son of the soli hailing from the remote village of Khungru, now called Ramnagar, (for reasons unknown), in Palampur Tehsil decided to setup an organic poultry farm in his village.

Organic farming is a unique production management system which promotes and enhances agro ecosystem health, including biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. Organic poultry is therefore rearing birds without cages, organic feed and access to open areas, duly fenced but not restricted birds’ free movement.

Retired Colonel said, “Organic farming is a concept that has gained currency in the recent past and has become hugely relevant under the corona pandemic.  Investing my savings and joining hands with unemployed youth in the village, I have created the infrastructure for an organic poultry farm in the village.”

Colonel (Retd) Vinod Awasthy further said, “ Taking no subsides from the government, the office has endeared to create a facility that will not only generate employment, bringing their to the fore, the PM Modi’s concept of self- reliant India but also provide to the people an organic food supplement enhancing their immunity.”

The Dhauladhar Farmfresh LLP, as the farm is called was inaugurated by Kokila Gurung, wife of Colonel Arjun Gurung, VSM and daughter of the famous war hero Himachal, Brigadier Sherjung Thapa, MVC, on Saturday.

Gurung, a multifaceted lady herself complimented Colonel (Retd) Awasthy and wished this venture a grand success.
Col (Retd) Vinod Awasthy concluded by saying, “In India, we have fallen prey to great leading to contamination of all items eatable. Therefore, increased concern over quality of meat and eggs available in the market for human consumption, a major cause for all cancers and other diseases. Dhauladhar Farmfresh will refrain from feeding the birds the pesticides and medicines meant for body building in quick time. In due course regulatory approvals will be sought to make the venture a certified organic poultry.”
