Millet girl dietician Shreya submits memorandum to Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar on World Health Day
Says there is only one Millets Research Institute situated at Hyderabad in India and a similar institute will prove a boon to Haryana farmers growing millets.
Chandigarh, April 7, 2022: Dietician Shreya's NGO Aaharika, which is providing free healthy and nutritious food to the underprivileged for the last five years, submitted a memorandum to the Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar for pushing 'Millet Kranti'
Being a nutritionist and health practitioner, Millet Girl Shreya strongly believes that the International Year of Millets 2023 will be celebrated by 70 countries worldwide.
"It’s time for Millet Kranti after Green Revolution in 1960 and white revolution in 1970. There are two important aspects to millet revolution; first depleting water level and less fertile soil due to contemporary farming cycles of wheat and rice. So cultivation of millets will result in fertile soil and less water requirement for millet crop. And second, being health professional and dealing with Non Communicable diseases Millets as staple food are strongly recommended”, said Shreya.
Meanwhile, the memorandum stated that there is only one Millets Research Institute situated at Hyderabad in India and a similar institute will prove a boon to Haryana farmers growing millets.
As a responsible organisation, we at Aharika offer our services to Haryana Government for promoting Farming of Millets and consumption of millets. Also we request the state government to begin a research Centre for millets. Aharika would like to be part of the Public- Private Partnership model and would be offering our services for the welfare of mankind.
We at Aharika are already producing various products of millets and are in process for patenting of our millet products and for farmers' encouragement would be happy to buy back all the crops of millets in Haryana at MSP as decided by Haryana Agriculture Ministry,' added Shreya.
