Chandigarh, June 16, 2024: Punjab government's Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal met NRI family who were victims of mob attack in Dalhousie, Himachal at Amritsar hospital on Sunday. Minister Dhaliwal assured the victim family of government's help and said that strict action will be taken against the attackers.

While talking to the media after the meeting, Kuldeep Dhaliwal said that Punjab Police will register zero FIR against the assault on the Punjabi couple in Himachal.  For this, I have asked the victim's family to give a statement to the police so that their side of the incident can be presented correctly.

He said that I tried to talk to the DGP of Himachal but I was told that he is out of the state right now. Dhaliwal said that in a day or two he will meet the Chief Minister and DGP of Himachal and hand over a copy of the FIR to them and demand strict action against the attackers, so that such incidents do not happen in the future.

He said that this incident is extremely condemnable. Every day thousands of people from Punjab visit tourist places like Shimla, Manali, Kasauli and Dalhousie. The economy of Himachal Pradesh is also heavily dependent on tourism. Such incidents will create fear and doubt in the minds of tourists. Therefore, the Himachal government should seriously consider this incident and take strict action against the culprits.

Let us tell you that on Saturday, an NRI of Punjab origin Kawaljit Singh alleged that he and his family were beaten up by some people during an argument over parking in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh. He also alleged regional discrimination and said that about 100 people attacked him. He has also accused the Himachal Police of forcibly deleting the video of the incident. At present, the victim couple is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Amritsar. Kawaljit Singh has been living in Spain for 25 years. He has recently returned to Punjab. He said that he had gone to Dalhousie two days ago with his Spanish wife and relatives.

A political controversy has also arisen regarding this incident. Leaders of all parties have condemned the incident of assault on the NRI man. Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal assured that the Mann government stands firmly with the NRI community in every sorrow and happiness. In this case also, we will take appropriate action and ensure justice to the victim's family.
