Ludhiana, November 29, 2018: Under the Mission Tandrust Punjab, being started by the Punjab government, District Ludhiana is giving special emphasis on setting up of Gobar Gas Plants so that the district contributes in energy conservation, besides providing cheap cooking gas to the residents. In year 2017-18, a total of 540 Gobar Gas Plants were set up in the district.

While providing further information, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Dr Shena Aggarwal stated that due to the efforts of district administration, a large number of people residing in villages are coming forward for the setting up of Gobar Gas Plants. And most of them are now totally dependent on using Gobar Gas for cooking purposes.

She said that a subsidy of Rs 9,000 is given for the setting up of Gobar Gas Plant and in year 2017-18, a subsidy amount of Rs 48.60 lakh has already been distributed amongst the beneficiaries. Dr Aggarwal informed that in the coming days, there is a proposal of increasing the subsidy amount to Rs 12,000.

She informed that Gobar Gas is not only used for cooking purposes at home, but it also produces organic manure, which is very beneficial for crops. She said that when a Gobar Gas Plant is set up, the surroundings of a village become clean and milch cattle also becomes safe. She said that keeping our surroundings clean is becoming a big issue these days and Gobar Gas Plants contribute to a large extent in this regard. She said that as the demand for LPG is increasing, there is a need that we find an alternative to it.

The ADC (Development) has appealed to people to set up maximum Gobar Gas Plants in villages as it would not only help in checking increasing demand for LPG cylinders, but would also contribute in energy conservation.
